How to Handle Your School's Football Obsession if You're Not Football-Obsessed

To contact us Click HERE

Endure the mass hysteria known as football season with these mildly subversive tactics.

To complete this how-to, you will need:

Offbeat school colors
Compelling photos
"I Hate Football" group
Happy place

Step 1: Tweak the team colors

Forced to wear team colors to show your school spirit? Wear shades that are close, but a little bit off. You'll feel like less of a lemming without pissing off the football jocks.

Step 2: Ditch the pep rallies

Ditch the pep rallies however you can. If anyone asks where you were, whisper "stomach troubles" and they'll leave you alone.

No way to escape the pep rally? Stay seated when the team enters as your silent protest.

Step 3: Keep photos handy

Scan the internet for funny, weird, or shocking photos to keep on your phone. Anytime someone wants to talk football, use them to change the subject.

Step 4: Start a group

Vent with like-minded people in an "I Hate Football" group. Make plans together for game nights, when the rest of a town is at the stadium.

Step 5: Have a happy place

When all else fails, have a happy place to go to in your head when everyone around you is boring you to tears with their football obsession. And remember: sooner or later, you'll graduate!

Gift Birdy online wish list for Holiday Shopping

To contact us Click HERE
I remember back in the day making wish list from the Sears catalog and passing it out to family. Very rarely would I get what was in that catalog but I had to try! How about your kids? Do they make a wish list from things they see on TV, catalogs, sale ads, etc? Do they pass the list out to the grandparents?holiday shopping
For my girls, they have never lived by their grandparents so when they make a wish list it gets passed along by telephone. That doesn't always work well especially when most of their wants can be found online. This year we have found a new wish list maker called GiftBirdy. Have you heard of it?
holiday shoppingGiftBirdy is an online wish list that allows your kids to easily create a wish list and send it to family and friends. This takes the guess work out of shopping and saves the phone call to tell the grandparents all the internet sites to go to. I know that the grandparents will appreciate the easy going shopping list. It is frustrating for them when they go pick out what they thought the girls want to find out it is the wrong style or color.
The site is all kid safe and kid friendly. Don't forget, as the parent you should always check out sites first. You can easily do that by watching this introduction video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNYzzAKlBPg which highlights all the fun features of the site. It also offers games for the kids to play, virtual gifts & cards can be sent by the kids and they can even send THANK YOU cards once they receive a gift. I really love the thank you card option! The site also has a Giftbirdy Giveback program which encourages children to add a small donation to a charity as a gift. kids wish listAs a mom I love that the site doesn't have any external ads. This is important because kids can click on them and head to sites that you have not checked out. The purchases are made through Amazon which is our main site where we order from. Amazon is amazing and I am so pleased that GiftBirdy is their affiliate partner. It is a safe, free site, too! So not only can your kids go make wish list but they can play around on the site and make virtual pets. I give this site 2 thumbs up and it is perfect for the Christmas Season.
This is a sponsored post from One2One Network and Gift Birdy. All opinions stated are my own.

Aflac Holiday Duck Program Helps Fight Childhood Cancer #AflacKids

To contact us Click HERE
Aflac Holiday Duck Program helps fight childhood cancer! We can all help out by purchasing a Duck or sending out tweets this holiday season.SheSpeaksbuttonAflac has teamed up with Macy's and created an Aflac Holiday Duck. This duck will not only provide you with a gift for someone on your wish list but a way to make a donations to the nearest pediatric cancer treatment and research facility nearest to where the duck was purchased. Isn't that amazing?

Since 2001, the sales of the Aflac Holiday Duck has raised more that three million dollars. This is the first year that I have heard of this. I am amazed to find out that it has been going on that long. I was so impressed to find out that not only do all net profits go for pediatric cancer treatments and research but they also hold a contest amongst their patients to design the Duck! How cool is that? This year, Aflac held a contest among their patients at the Aflac Cancer Center in Atlanta to determine who would design the 2012 Duck. Monica Sandoval, 16 year old from Winder, GA was the winner. She has been been battling leukemia for 4 years.

Do you have gift purchase between $10-$15 that you need to make this holiday season? The Aflac Holiday Duck retails for $10 for the 6 inch duck and $15 for the 10 inch duck. They can be found at over 600 participating Macy's stores across the country. Have you seen the Aflac Duck at your local store? Click the link for more information.

My Aflack Holiday Duck was sitting on my dinning room table. A few times I would squeeze it so I could here it squawk the typical, "Aflack" sound that the Duck makes in his commercials. Before I knew it, my cat Aslan had jumped up and taken the Duck off of the table and made it his Duck. We are thinking that he thought the Duck was calling his name, "Aslan" vs. "Aflack"? I don't know but here are a few pictures of his new toy.

Besides purchasing one of the Ducks, if you tweet out my post using the #AflacKids hashtags (it is in the title) and the tweet button is in the button bar at the end of this post-for every tweet using that hashtag, Aflac will donate $2 directly to pediatric cancer research! Does it get any better that that? Well yes, it does!

You can also participate in the Twitter party to help raise awareness about pediatric cancer and the Aflac Holiday Duck. There will be fun prize giveaways (always a given at a Twitter Party) and true to their promise, Aflac will donate $2 directly to pediatric cancer research for ever tweet with the #AflacKids hashtags! I am so loving this.

Orange juice and zest make these fun-sized cherry pies a refreshing, tangy dessert. With canola oil, these treats are better-for-you than traditional pies.

Cherry Pie Bites
Ingredients:
Crust
  • ½ cup slivered almonds (skin on) 125 mL
  • 2¼ to 2½ cups all-purpose flour 560 to 625 mL
  • ½ tsp salt 2 mL
  • ½ tsp baking powder 2 mL
  • 2/3 cup canola oil, chilled in freezer for 2 hours* 150 mL
  • 1 egg, beaten slightly
  • ¼ cup ice water 60 mL
  • ¼ cup 1% milk 60 mL
  • 1 Tbsp vinegar 15 mL
  • canola oil spray

Cherry Filling
  • 4 cups frozen unsweetened tart cherries, thawed (drain off any extra juice) 1 L
  • ½ cup orange juice 125 mL
  • 1¼ cups granulated sugar 310 mL
  • 1¾ Tbsp cornstarch  25 mL
  • 1½ Tbsp fresh orange zest 25 mL

Instructions:
  1. To prepare crust: In food processor, add almonds and pulse once or twice for coarsely ground consistency. Add flour, salt and baking powder. Pulse one or twice to combine ingredients. Add cold/frozen canola oil. Pulse again once or twice.
  2. In small bowl, combine egg, water, milk and vinegar. With food processor running, pour liquid ingredients through feed tube. Turn off machine as soon as ingredients are mixed, about 10 seconds.
  3. Remove dough and place on lightly floured surface. Knead ingredients 4 or 5 times to finish mixing. Divide dough in half, wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate until ready to roll out.
  4. To prepare filling: In saucepan, combine thawed cherries and orange juice over medium low-heat for about 8 minutes. In small bowl, completely combine sugar and cornstarch. Add sugar-cornstarch mixture and orange zest to cherries. Cook cherry mixture until it comes to rolling boil. Cook for 2 more minutes until well thickened. Cool cherry filling slightly.
  5. Preheat oven to 425 °F (220 °C). Spray mini muffin tins with canola oil spray.
  6. Roll chilled dough out on well-floured work surface. With 2½-inch (7-cm) round cookie or biscuit cutter, with its edge dipped in flour, cut 24 rounds from dough. Roll out remaining dough and use it to cut small decorative pieces of dough to decorate top of pies.
  7. Carefully fit 2½-inch (7-cm) dough rounds into bottom of prepared mini muffin tin. Pat down bottom with excess coming up sides. Spoon about 1 Tbsp (15 mL) cooled cherry pie filling into each crust-lined cup. Carefully top each mini pie with decorative pieces of pie dough.
  8. Bake for about 12 minutes or until edges are golden brown and filling is bubbly. Remove from oven and set on wire rack and cool completely, then remove from muffin tin and serve.
Yield: 24 mini pies.
